Born out of a need in New York City for new voices in theater, REBEL VERSES Youth Arts Festival is a journey into the unapologetic, unrestrainable creativity of the next generation. This two-week festival brings together student ensembles from all five boroughs of New York City and beyond. Since the festival’s inception in 2001, REBEL VERSES has provided youth companies with the opportunity to collaborate and network with their peers and prominent artists, encouraging the development of new works in theatre through this two-week event. Stage and screen star Daphne Rubin-Vega is the spokesperson for the festival. Beyond grateful for another year of Rebel Verses. Another year of providing space for growth! From July 27-29: Week One was led with performances by Developing Artists, Vibe Theatre Student Ensemble, PRY Safe, MCC Youth Company, and Savage Squad--with guest artists, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Okai, and Diana Oh. From August 3-5: Week Two was led with performances by Developing Artists, Vineyard Theatre Student Ensemble, The Door, Epic Next, Alumni Theater Company, and Savage Squad--with guest artists, Eric Bogosian, LaChanze, and muMs. "We all dream that one day we will achieve something we believe is much bigger than ourselves. We as artists hope that what we do matters and moves the people who see it. I have the courage and drive to reach for my dreams and express myself through art because of what I learned from Developing Artists."
