How do you handle a fully-real, expressive, youth activist theater class in the middle of a global pandemic? Well just almost like any other online class/meeting you've heard of during this time -- we gotta be thankful for Zoom. Oh, you bet it wasn't the easiest of times, but to exist in a time where technology has allowed us to stay connected while we need to remain socially distant... we're grateful. Despite the troubles of not being in one studio & rehearsing for what would've been Rebel Verses 2020 (*big sad*), we made the best of what the digital generation brings to us. Our Developing Artists summer classes were made up of a lot of Zoom conference calls & lectures, GroupMe chats, various DOPE AF projects, celebrating ARTivists wins (hint, hint: Bryson), and sad but heart-warming goodbyes to some of our graduates moving on to pursue their art-oriented careers in higher education. A list of projects that we worked on over the summer includes:
If you hadn't already heard, one of our very own, Bryson Brunson was a contestant on Wayne Brady's Comedy IQ (which aired on BYUtv), a show where some of the funniest teens in America compete in stand-up, improv, music, movement, and more. And well... let's just say we had a winner ;) Congratulation again to Bryson for being the winner of Comedy IQ! If you're itching so bad to know, he won $10k, HIS OWN COMEDY SPECIAL (LET'S GOOOOOO), a spot to tour with Wayne Brady himself (when things get a little safer out there), and more! Regardless of all of that, we're always #TeamBryson. Check out Bryson on Instagram! It doesn't even end there (dang, we're almost done we promise). As time goes on, these ARTivists continue to grow up (OOF, the CLICHÉ). COVID-19 doesn't put a pause to some of the students graduating & leaving. We are proud of them everyday, and wish them nothing but good things as they move on to pursue their dreams (who let us type all of that drama?). Cheers to y'all: Brianna, KT, Isabel, Harvey, Jennifer, & Sara <3 Wanna get the full scoop of what's going on with Developing Artists? Sign up for our monthly newsletter below.
