For many, Developing Artists is a symbol of Hope: What we like to call RELENTLESS HOPE.
During these tumultuous times, as our young artists continue to fight for justice, no matter what obstacles are put in their way, they continue to meet each other, their allies, and even foes with love and acceptance.
When young people are more susceptible to being pawns in a culture war, when they are still being dismissed as irrelevant factors in major decisions that have a lasting impact on society, their hope provides an alternative: a better way of living and thriving in the world.

How do you handle a fully-real, expressive, youth activist theater class in the middle of a global pandemic?
Well just almost like any other online class/meeting you've heard of during this time -- we gotta be thankful for Zoom. Oh, you bet it wasn't the easiest of times, but to exist in a time where technology has allowed us to stay connected while we need to remain socially distant... we're grateful. Despite the troubles of not being in one studio & rehearsing for what would've been Rebel Verses 2020 (*big sad*), we made the best of what the digital generation brings to us. Our Developing Artists summer classes were made up of a lot of Zoom conference calls & lectures, GroupMe chats, various DOPE AF projects, celebrating ARTivists wins (hint, hint: Bryson), and sad but heart-warming goodbyes to some of our graduates moving on to pursue their art-oriented careers in higher education.
A list of projects that we worked on over the summer includes:

We celebrated our 20th Birthday @ the Brooklyn Bowl!
REBEL VERSES is a two-week festival of performances by some of the best youth companies in NYC and beyond. With a mission to nurture the unapologetic, unrestrained creativity of the next generation, REBEL VERSES provides an opportunity for young artists ages 13-19 to perform their own original work and to collaborate and network with their peers and prominent guest artists. Founded 16 years ago by Developing Artists, and co-produced by Vineyard Theatre since 2017, REBEL VERSES celebrates the work these young artists create in an environment that champions the legitimacy of all stories and backgrounds.
Here you will find the most recent news (as well as some archived information) on what our ARTivists are have been up to -- classes, events, REBEL VERSES, and more!
